Xaverine M A Bates
Xaverine M A Bates is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring themes of gender, mental health and eco-feminism.
She completed her BA Fine Art at Brighton University in 2008 and has been practising since then in East Sussex. She also has a degree in Philosophy & Anthropology, lived in Mexico for 2½ years and is married to an Icelander with whom she has one daughter.
She is currently coordinating The Mother Lode Project, which aims to extract the gold from challenging experiences of motherhood by giving opportunities for artists who are mothers to work with those who may be experiencing mental health challenges as a result of motherhood, which is being run in partnership with Recovery Partners at the De La Warr Pavilion in 2019.
Previous projects include collaborating with Clare Whistler to create elemental, an experiential exploration of the elements through movement, site-specific artworks and meditation; riart Grrrls, a feminist arts collective, as well as aGender arts & education in 2013, a charity which works with young people to challenge gender stereotypes through creative media.
